To use a third-party library (a library that has not been encoded by Native Instruments) you must be using the version of Kontakt that the library was created in or newer – Kontakt is not forwards compatible. Most sample libraries you buy from third-party developers, including Xtant Audio, have not been encoded by Native Instruments and therefore won’t appear in this tab nor can they be installed by clicking the “Add Library” button. Only sample libraries that have been sent by the library’s developer to Native Instruments for encoding show up here and they work not only in the full version of Kontakt but also in the free Kontakt Player. The Libraries tab displays all of the Kontakt libraries that have been installed using the “Add Library” button. If you can’t see the browser you need to open it by clicking the “Browse” button located at the left of Kontakt’s top menu. This image is probably one you’re familiar with. It’s the Libraries tab in Kontakt’s browser window. The information presented in this guide is applicable to most third-party Kontakt sample libraries but there are always exceptions so it’s important that you read the user guides that come with the libraries you purchase. Here we’re going to focus on the latter as those are the ones that you’re more likely to struggle with loading into Kontakt (the first time at least). Those that run in the free Kontakt Player and those that will only work with the full (paid) version of Kontakt. You can also set locations on your computer for the installers you download, but also for the VST plugins and applications you install.Īll in all, Native Access is a decent program, but I can’t really say that I’m completely sold on the reason it exists.Kontakt sample libraries come in two flavours. The interface is minimalistic and it allows you to browse with ease through the list of products that you have installed, the list of products that you own but haven’t yet installed, and through the list of products that need to be updated. One thing you can’t say about Native Access is that it’s difficult to use. Native Access can be used to install the programs and update them, and it also provides product descriptions as well as changelogs. For me, this is approach seems a bit excessive, and even though I understand that it’s a measure to fight piracy, I find it a bit frustrating that you have to install three programs in order to get just the one you want. However, you do need it to download Kontakt Player, which is a piece of software that’s required to play many of the developer’s instruments. A download manager for NI productsįirst off, it should be noted that you don’t actually need Native Access to download all of the NI plugins. I’m not trying to imply that they are too expensive or anything, just that, for some tools you have to take a few extra steps before you can actually have them installed on your computer.Īnd one of the first steps you have to take is called Native Access. While you can expect nothing less than quality when it comes to their sound, one could argue that their plugins are a little hard to get. Native Instruments is one of the most well-known developers and manufacturers of electronic music instruments, both virtual and physical.
